A few day ago, I was contacted by the press about content on one of my blogs. This was the second time this year that one of my blogs received attention from the media!
How did they find me? Excellent organic search engine rankings. No press kit. No expensive marketing strategies. No PR firm. Plain and simple, Google loves blogs.
What interest the media? Fresh, unique and authentic content. Many journalists also love blogs.
So what was the content? Last Father’s Day I published a post on my coaching business blog about my late father. He was a wonderful man who possessed the values of integrity, excellence, accomplishment and service.
It is very important to me that I connect with all of my clients on a personal level. I share the same values as my father, so I felt it was important to share his life with my readers.
A journalist from Newhouse News Service contacted me after finding my post on the internet. She was searching for interesting stories related to Father’s Day. My story about how I honored my father will be featured in an upcoming article about Father’s Day.
It may not have been Oprah knocking at my door, but someone saw the value in my story and wanted to share it with others. This is the power of online marketing. Moreover, a blog is the perfect medium for expressing your humanness, developing relationships and positioning yourself as a thought leader in your industry.
By sharing my father’s life via my blog, I was able to connect with my readers in a way that was authentic, real and human. That speaks louder than a flawless resume, fancy business card, or polished website.
Have a wonderful Father’s Day with the people you love!
